ADAS
Advanced Driver Assistance Systems
Diagnose - Repair - Replace - Calibrate
Why do you need your ADAS calibrated?
After the windscreen has been replaced, or any panel repair is done (no matter how minor), getting the ADAS calibrated is crucial to ensure that the system continues to operate correctly. It is also a legal requirement to have the ADAS recalibrated after a repair.
What Happens If ADAS isn't Calibrated?
An uncalibrated ADAS can cause serious issues, including the ADAS activating prematurely and causing the car to do things when it shouldn’t, including avoidance braking and steering. This can be extremely dangerous especially at speed.
So What is ADAS?
ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems)works by alerting the driver to danger or even taking action to avoid an accident. ADAS-equipped vehicles can sense the environment around them, process this information quickly and accurately in a computer system, and provide the correct output to the driver.
ADAS-equipped vehicles have an array of advanced sensors that augment the eyes, ears, and decision-making of the human driver.
The below image shows the types of sensors currently being used today as part of the ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems) equipment installed in your vehicle.
The ADAS architecture consists of a suite of sensors, interfaces, and a powerful computer processor that integrates all of the data and makes decisions in real time.
These sensors are constantly examining the environment around the vehicle and providing this information to onboard ADAS computers for prioritization and action.
We come to rely on these systems more than you may know or like to admit. This can cause all sorts of inconveniences to dangerous hazards if and when they fail to operate correctly.
